Sure you know about Thanksgiving and Small Business Saturday, but are you building any promotions around Veterans Day or America Recycles Day? Did you know November is also the time for Pickle Day, Adoption Day and Donut Day. Check out our calendar on some ideas to build evergreen content marketing around these special days.

What is Evergreen Content Marketing?

Evergreen content is search-optimized content that is relevant over a long period of time. Some content, such as a post about you attending a trade show, or a press release about a new partnership is no longer relevant to readers after a certain period of time, whether that is a week or a year after publication. Evergreen content continues to be relevant long past its publication. As a result, readers will continue to engage with it, and search engines will reward you with more visitors.

November’s Evergreen Content Marketing Opportunities

Evergreen content marketing is similar to tentpole marketing, which takes an evergreen event and builds a marketing campaign around it.

November: No Shave November
Join this popular, annual campaign to raise cancer awareness with special offers to customers or clients sporting a beard during November. Whether the customer has the real deal or a fake version (extending the offer to women), this would also provide photo ops that you can use as engaging social media content. And be sure to make a donation to the American Cancer Society in your business’s name and post about it on social media, encouraging others to donate too, since that is what No Shave November is all about.

November: National Pepper Month
Flavor your marketing with a little heat! If you are a food-based business, consider featuring peppers – from gentle to extreme – in your monthly promotions. Other businesses can bite into this event, too, with some creative specials. Share your ideas on Twitter with the #7GPepper hashtag!

Veterans Day, Nov. 11th
Veterans Day, a federal holiday to honor veterans of the U.S. military. Celebrate the day by offering special deals, especially for those who may have served (including yours truly).
[A few spots remain for our quarterly “Build Your Business” in-studio video shoot, which also takes place on Veterans Day. If you are a veteran, email me and I will knock $100 off the already deeply discounted price!]

November 15: America Recycles Day
More and more shoppers – whether looking for dinner restaurants or personal injury lawyers – are preferring to do business with businesses that recycle. Make sure to highlight your efforts to be a better steward to the environment throughout the year, but especially on this day.

November 17: Take a Hike Day
Make some room for the holiday feasting by getting out of doors for a hike in Forest Park, along the beach or someplace else. If you are real estate agent, emphasize where your listed homes are in proximity to park spaces, or highway routes to special locations. Consider closing for half the day, and take you and your team for a special adventure.

Thanksgiving, Nov. 26th
Thanksgiving is a time with family and friends, thankfulness, and of course, bargains and football. Be sure to send promo emails at least a week prior to this holiday, but also take this day as an opportunity to reach out one last time before Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving). Or, start a new tradition and send an email or a card by thanking your customers for being just that, customers.

Black Friday, Nov. 27th
Thanks to deep discounts from retailers, Black Friday is one of the busiest shopping days of the year, officially kicking off the holiday shopping season. Whether you go the traditional discount route or try alternative promotions, be prepared because the competition for shoppers’ attention will be fierce.

Small Business Saturday, Nov. 28th
This small business focused holiday is all about encouraging people to support small businesses and keep it local during the holiday season. In 2011, 100 million customers decided to “shop small,” so don’t snooze on this great marketing opportunity. Not only should you be taking advantage of efforts in your community (neighborhood associations, chambers of commerce, trade organizations, etc.) to promote Small Business Saturday for your business, but also take the time to promote the small businesses that you love, too! This could be done via social media shout out (#WeLove7GMedia), partnership special discounts, or by doing business with them. Remember to use the hashtag #SmallBusinessSaturday!

Cyber Monday, Nov. 30th
Cyber Monday, which was coined in 2005 by Shop.org is the first Monday after Thanksgiving and is geared towards online sales and shoppers. Last year Cyber Monday had more total sales than Black Friday! Send emails specifically for your online shoppers.

Conclusion

As you can see, there are a ton of opportunities each month for leveraging a particular day or event into an evergreen content marketing piece, whether that is a blog post, social campaign, or a flash sale.
